Reverse waterfall

A reverse waterfall is a phenomenon where the falling water defies gravity and goes up due to strong winds. I had seen this situation in a waterfall that I had visited earlier (link here). There was news sometime back that water in Jog falls reversed due to strong winds.

One such reverse waterfall is located on a high plateau near Karad. While returning from Koynanagar, we decided to pay a visit to this place.

The uphill climb started immediately after crossing Karad. The views got better as we climbed up. We stopped at several places during our climb to savour the views. But once we climbed up the hill, a completely different world welcomed us. We were on a high plateau with windmills located in every direction. The dark clouds hovering in the sky gave a different perspective of the place.

Google Maps correctly brought us to the location of the waterfall. Few vehicles were already parked. A ticket booth indicated the popularity of the place. The person at the ticket counter gave us some news to us!

There was no water as it had not rained for the past week. It appeared that the water sources needed heavy rains to generate the flow. We were disappointed with the news, but it did not bother us much. The scenery was so beautiful, and we agreed to pay the small entry fee to proceed further.

It was an incredible view from the edge of the cliff. The dark clouds, plains at the base, and greenery have a different perspective of the place. It was something we get to see only in the Sahyadri range in Maharashtra.

After some time at the cliff, we drove further on the plateau. It was a peaceful place with beautiful views all around.

Information and tips
  • This waterfall is about 10 km from the town of Patan in Maharashtra.
  • It is a monsoon-only waterfall, and there will be water only during rains. A few days of dry weather is enough for this waterfall to vanish!! But the scenery is terrific irrespective of weather conditions!!
