Puliyarasi is a small hill near Hosur and is a great place for beginners and families looking for a short hike. Recently, Chaya, Tanu and I visited this lesser-known hill for a relaxed half-day trip.
Reaching the place was straightforward. We simply followed Google Maps. The last kilometre was on a mud road. It would have been an easy drive, but recent JCB work had made the road quite dusty. About 500 metres after taking the deviation, we reached Sri Muneswara Swamy Temple. We decided to park our car there and continue on foot.

The walk through the countryside was pleasant. The weather was cloudy, making it comfortable to walk. Within a few minutes, we reached another temple – Sri Maligeswara Swamy Temple. Cars can reach up to this point, while bikes can continue all the way to the top.
Although there is a longer bike trail, walkers can take a much shorter route. The trail is short but steep. As we climbed higher, the surrounding landscape slowly opened up, rewarding us with beautiful views.
While enjoying the scenery, we suddenly heard loud cries and the sound of something moving in the bushes. We couldn’t figure out what it was. We hoped we would get an answer as we continued climbing, but we never did. It remained a mystery.

After about 30 minutes of walking, we reached a flat open area. It was a peaceful spot with a few trees and lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The main temple here is inside a small cave, but it was closed during our visit. Since we were the only people there, we spent quite some time relaxing and enjoying the silence.
Our final destination was the summit. This section was more challenging, requiring us to scramble over rocks and squeeze through a few narrow gaps. Tanu volunteered to join me while Chaya stayed behind.

We managed to get almost to the top, but the final move required a small jump onto the summit rock. I wasn’t comfortable taking that last step, so we decided to stop there. Even without reaching the highest point, the views were fantastic. We could also see a small lamp post standing on the summit.

Overall, this turned out to be a wonderful half-day trip. Puliyarasi may not be a famous destination, but its easy hike, peaceful surroundings and beautiful views make it a perfect weekend escape for families and beginner trekkers. If you are looking for a quiet hill near Bengaluru or Hosur without the crowds, Puliyarasi is definitely worth a visit.
