This post is about the two reservoirs in Kodagu, which have unique characteristics to attract people. These are not much known but are very near to the towns in Kodagu.

Chiklihole dam is built across a small stream near Kushalnagar. From Kushalnagar, we took the road towards Dubare at Guddehosur. After driving for a few kilometres, we took the deviation to Chiklihole dam. The last 4 km to the dam was through the reserved forest. It was a nice stretch to drive. We reached a gate which had a parking place and some small eateries.

The reservoir was in the backdrop of hills and forests. It was a cloudy day, and the view looked amazing. We walked along the bund. The caretaker told us that the gate would close at 4 PM. There was ample time for us.

There are many reservoirs in India, and what is so special about it? The circular gate that drains the water is something unique that is not common. It looked like the water was spilling out from a bowl!!

Kootu Poly dam is about 5 km from Madikeri. Drinking water to Madikeri is supplied from this reservoir, but it is not much known in tourist circles.

The dam is just next to the road to Galibeedu. While we could get a glimpse of the dam from the main road, a short deviation of 50 meters brought us in front of the dam. From the bridge, we could see the water flowing out of the dam. The green surroundings make it a beautiful place.

Tip

Monsoon is the best time to visit these places as the primary attraction is the water flowing out of the dam.
