Ankasamudra bird sanctuary near Hosapete

I came to know about this place recently. A few of my friends went for a birding trip to Ankasamudra, but I had to give it a miss due to personal reasons. But soon after, I got another opportunity to visit this place when I travelled to Hampi with my family. While driving to Hosapete, we took a short detour to visit this place. It was only to feel the glimpse of the bird sanctuary and not a birding session. Also, we were there in the mid-morning, not an ideal time for birding.

The entrance of the bird sanctuary was visible from the main road. I stopped my car at the entrance as the route further was filled with slush. We walked on the mud road with the lake visible on the right side. The brown layer on the water camouflaged the lake, and initially, we thought of it as the ground!!

After walking for half a km, we reached the watchtower. Upon climbing, we saw the full view of the bird sanctuary. It was the beginning of the birding season, and many migratory and water birds were already present. With the proper fence, it looked like the bird sanctuary was well protected.

In the short time we spent, we could spot many species. Typical suspects like Kingfishers, Bulbuls, Ibis and storks were present. Not just the lake, the surrounding areas was rich in avian species. Overall, it looked like a good place for birding.  It would have been more fruitful if we had come in the early morning or evening.
