Kadavinakatte dam is a reservoir constructed across the Venkatapur River and is a major source of water to nearby Bhatkal town. Read about my earlier visit to the old temples of Bhatkal here.
I was not aware of this place until my uncle mentioned about it when I was in my native place. After seeing the photos on the internet, I decided to visit it on the next day itself. So, we made a visit to this place with my cousins.
Reaching Kadavainakatte dam was easy. Google Maps location and direction was accurate and we reached the dam without much difficulty. It is in the outskirts of Bhatkal and is just 2km deviation from Bhatkal – Sagar highway. There was a good amount of place for parking our car.
The sight of the dam left us speechless. It was so beautiful!! The dam surrounded by greenery, the vast backwaters and water flowing majestically from the dam was a sight to be watched.
Our timing was good. Monsoon season has just ended and there was a decent amount of water flowing out. Thanks to clear weather on last few days, the water was not muddy. We could easily walk on top of the dam. As long as you could stand strong, the force of the water was not enough to throw us down.
In monsoon, it will not be possible to walk on top of the dam due to high water levels, though the place offers a different perspective during rainy season. Summer months may not see any water flowing out.
We spent a long time walking on the dam and enjoying the water.
I did not see anyone swimming in the waterfall. There was a board asking people not to swim. Apart from walking on top of the dam, it did not look safe to venture down the falls.
