Trek to Tharayanadurgam

I’ve been hiking many fort hills near Hosur. After my recent hikes to Udedurgam and Anchetty Durgam, I decided to explore another fort hill, Tharayanadurgam.

Tharayanadurgam, also known as Thenidurgam, is a small fort hill near Hosur. I couldn’t find much information about it, but I got some details from Dhiraj’s blog.

This time, we had a great group with us. Chaya and Tanu came along, and my sister-in-law and nephew joined too. It was my nephew’s first trek, and this was a good choice since Thenidurgam is an easy hike.

Google Maps guided us accurately to the spot. We were surprised to hear people speaking Kannada, which made it easier for us to communicate with the villagers.

Hike to the top

Finding the path to the hill was simple. We quickly realized it would be an easy trek. The steps were neatly laid out, and the hill didn’t look very challenging. We walked at a relaxed pace, enjoying the surroundings.

Soon, we reached the first fort gate, where we saw some remains of the fort walls. As we climbed, we passed a small temple beside the trail.

Before long, a gateway appeared, and we knew we were close to the top. There was an old, broken-down structure, which might have been a living room or storage area.

At the top, there was a wide-open space with a small temple next to a pond.

One of the most interesting parts was the huge rocks on the top. It was fun exploring under them, and we spent a lot of time relaxing there.

The way down was smooth. On our way back, we also visited the birthplace of C. Rajagopalachari, the last Governor General of India. His birthplace has now been turned into a memorial. By the way, the Rajajinagar area in Bengaluru is named after him.
