We knew that Abbigundi was not strictly a waterfall but a check dam where water flows over it. While we expected a good water level due to good rains, we also did not have many expectations. But this place turned out to be a pleasant surprise!!
After taking the deviation from the main road, we asked locals about the falls. As expected, though the waterfall location was correct in Google Maps, the route was not. Google maps struggle with the last mile navigation in such places. We followed the directions given by locals and took deviations as they suggested. A couple of boards mentioning the waterfall helped us.
At one deviation, there was no board, and we could not find any people to guide us. We took the right turn and after some time reached a gate of a house. Realizing that our intuition was wrong, we turned back to continue on the other road. After travelling for a km, we found a person working on some stuff. He told us that the waterfall was nearby.
We could hear the sound from the road. It seemed that there was a good amount of water. After walking for 2-3 minutes, we came in front of the falls, only to be dumbfounded looking at it. The scene was beyond our imagination!!
We expected a good amount of water, but we saw an “enormous” quantity of water flowing over the dam. It was scary to watch, I must say. We became ultra-careful in walking on the rocks, as any fall into water would wash us down in no time. The heavy rains had turned water into muddy, creating a “violent” scene!! The dam was overflowing, and the water had pulled many trees and logs with it. If such a small stream could bring in so much water, imagine the levels in big rivers!! By the way, this stream later joins the Tunga River.
We found a way to the side of the waterfalls. It provided a different perspective of the place. Overall, we were happy with the place. We had come without many expectations but ended by leaving with complete satisfaction.
