Kalyani dam is a small reservoir built in Seshachalam forest. Constructed in 1977 across Swarnamukhi river, the dam is one of the water sources for Tirupati. Since it was 25 km from Tirupati, we decided to visit this place during our recent trip to Tirupati. It was just 2km detour from Talakona Tirupati road. Since we were visiting in the middle of summer, the expectations were not very high from this place.
A board on the main road showed the deviation to Kalyani dam but I was bit hesitant to enter. A compound and a huge gate gave an indication of a private area but the watchman asked us to proceed further without asking any questions. It was police training Academy!! After about a kilometre we exited that place to enter into a small road. The road further was a narrow concrete road. I hoped that no vehicle would come from other direction!!
Within few minutes we were in front of Kalyani dam and the beauty of the place unravelled in front of us. It was really a beautiful dam surrounded by forests and hills. The place brought back the memories of Panchapalli dam that we visited long back. The place was so peaceful and serene. Apart from a family who were near the backwaters and some fisherman there was no presence of any other soul nearby. We got down to the water and spent some time enjoying the beauty of the place.
A nice place to visit if you are in Tirupati. It is a short detour on Tirupati Pileri road. November to January will be the ideal time to visit this place as the rains will fill the dam.
