Nittur is a small village between Hosanagara and Kollur. Many people would have passed this town either while going to Kollur or Kodachadri. A new attraction in this area is a hanging bridge constructed across Sharavathi backwaters. It was built to provide connectivity to the other side of the backwaters but apparently became a tourist spot!!
Subbu and I were at Kollur. We had returned from a hike to a waterfall. We still had some time to kill and our Jeep driver suggested us to visit the hanging bridge. It was about 4 km from the town. Even though we had hiked to a waterfall, we still felt the need for a workout and decided to walk the distance.Â
It was a pleasant walk. We were in the middle of the rainy season, and the area had already been receiving heavy rains. The moss on top of the roofs of the houses indicated the same. Even heavier rains were supposed to hit in the coming days. We were lucky to be in the small window where the rains had given some respite!!Â
After about 45 minutes of walking, we were happy to see the bridge in front of us. It was mainly constructed for pedestrians and two-wheelers. We were the only ones then. The opposite side of the bridge attracted our attention, and we crossed it. We walked along the side of the backwaters to find a peaceful place and relax. It was also time to have lunch, which was basically a packed food from a hotel.Â
The place was so peaceful that we decided to sleep for sometime!! The only sounds we heard was the chirping of birds, gentle waves hitting the shore, and the feeble sounds from fishermen from a long distance. We enjoyed the solitude and congratulated ourselves for coming to such a nice place.Â
After spending a long time in the backwaters, we reluctantly started walking back.Â
