During my visit to Madenur dam, I had seen an old road towards Bellenne backwaters. This time, when I had been to my native place, visited this place. It is just 5 km from the town of Talguppa. From Bellenne Temple, the main road leads to Sagar while a narrow mud road directs to the backwaters. The rest of the road towards Madenur is now submerged in waters.
Lot of villages near Bellenne was submerged under Sharavathi backwaters. Writer Na. D’Souza mentions about the pains suffered by the people of this particular village in his story “Seeme Bhattaru Anatharadaddu” (published in “Mayura” magazine several years ago). I have decided to explore this route during summer, if possible.

That pic with the bike, road submerged and the vast expanse of the backwaters is good. There was a road deviating from the Madenur market place and we did walk for some distance on that road when I was there 4 years back. I had heard that that road was a direct connection from Madenur to Talaguppa. This must be it.
Sight of backwaters makes me go sick as nothing comes to my mind apart from the pain and struggle of those people who had to vacate their land.

I hear the struggle of the people who vacated the land whenever i visit my native place from elderly people. painful…

Yes the road leads to madenur and connects Bhatkal which was a main highway for transportation in those days. the temple you have seen in Bellenne is 300 years old (Shambhu lingeshwara temple). In Summer the water leve drops too low in Bellenne so that we can see old remainings. Also we can see a small falls called ‘Keppa joga'(not UKs) which submerge in these water. That place is a must see place in summer.(reminds you a natural rock fort).
