Shivalaya, Arasikere

When I heard the name of this Temple for the first time, it sounded like a new Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was later that I realized that it was a Hoysala styled Temple called as Chandramouleshwara Temple but known as “Shivalaya” among locals.

A short detour on Bengaluru – Shimoga highway in Arasikere town would lead to this Temple.

The most intriguing aspect of this Temple is a dome shaped stone structure. This is not very much seen in Hoysala styled architecture.

Being a “live” Temple, this place has lot of visitors.

Good write up Arvind..i too visited this temple many times. It always reserves something new on every visit. Have you tried to summit Malekallu Tirupathi hill, which is hardly 3-4 kms from this temple. Treking the hill is a nice feeling, as it offers lush green carpet during post summer.
